About This Webinar
How do amateur adult piano students experience learning the piano? Pei-Chen Chen and Elizabeth Haddon provide an in-depth look at the lived experiences, motivation, goals and attitudes of adults taking a group piano class and individual lessons. Dr. Chen’s research presentation delves into the lived experiences of three career-aged amateur adults, unveiling their unique perceptions of learning the piano and the motivations and learning behaviours that differentiate them from children and professional learners. Elizabeth Haddon discusses group piano pedagogy through the perspective of her 2017 article “Piano performance: Group classes for the lifelong learner” (Research Studies in Music Education), exploring the background, findings and implications of this research.
