Jessie Welsh, DMA, NCTM, received her doctorate in Piano Pedagogy from Texas Christian University in 2021. While at TCU, Jessie taught applied piano, class piano for all levels, and piano pedagogy, and was awarded the Outstanding Graduate Student Research Award. Jessie completed her dissertation—“Student–First Piano Pedagogy”—on the topic of the student-teacher relational connection in the private piano studio. Jessie also holds a Master of Music in Piano Performance and a Master of Music in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from Southern Methodist University, as well as undergraduate degrees in both Piano Performance and Music Education from the University of Central Florida. Jessie’s teaching experience includes early childhood, K–12, collegiate, and adult education, and she has served as an instructor at TCU and SMU. Additionally, Jessie operates a home studio in Dallas, serves as an accompanist for The Children’s Chorus of Greater Dallas, and is a 2021-2022 Intern for The Frances Clark Center for Keyboard Pedagogy. Jessie has been a presenter at the College Music Society National Conference, the MTNA National Conference, the MTNA Collegiate Pedagogy Symposium, and The National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy. Her publications have been featured by Piano Magazine and American Music Teacher. MTNA named Jessie as the recipient of the 2019 MarySue Harris Studio Teacher Fellowship Award and recently as the 2022 recipient of the American Music Teacher Article of the Year Award.
