Advancing Scholarship and Creativity
Periodicals, Publications, and Courses

Recent publications advancing representation and artistry in piano literature.
Piano Magazine, Piano Inspires Kids, and the new Journal of Piano Research continue to share ideas that inspire, inform, and strengthen the field of piano education. Together, these publications reflect The Frances Clark Center’s ongoing commitment to supporting teachers, fostering artistry, and shaping the future of the profession.
The Frances Clark Center, through Piano Education Press, published new works that expand representation and access to music education. Weaving Sounds: Elementary Piano Pieces by Native and Indigenous Composers, edited by Connor Chee and Renata Yazzie, features newly commissioned works from nine Indigenous composers and original artwork by an Indigenous visual artist. Supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts, the collection was distributed free of charge to educators, students, and schools within Tribal Nations, broadening access to culturally relevant piano repertoire and strengthening relationships with Indigenous communities through music education.
Two additional publications by Thomas H. Kerr Jr., edited by Susanna Garcia and William Chapman Nyaho, further expanded representation in piano literature. Easter Monday Swagger reimagines the African American spiritual through classical and improvisatory styles, while Dancétudes: 7 Vignettes of Dolls and Pets introduces imaginative works for young pianists.
The Center also introduced a new online course, A Pianist’s Guide to Teaching Recreational Music Makers, designed to help teachers create inclusive and engaging environments for adult learners. This program continues the Center’s commitment to lifelong learning and reminds us that music study can enrich life at every stage.
We are grateful to the educators, authors, and supporters whose creativity and generosity sustain the Center’s publications and educational programs, advancing excellence in piano teaching and learning.
